The agenda is live and registration is open for NAFOA’s Virtual 2020 Fall Conference taking place on October 5-9, 2020. We are working hard to bring you a virtual conference lineup with compelling education sessions and fun entertainment. R

WEBINAR: BUILDING YOUR SQUAD: FAMILY CONVERSATIONS FOR FINANCIAL WELL-BEING

NAFOA and The American Indian College Fund have invited two CPA’s to answer questions and discuss meaningful habits and actions for smart financial choices this fall. Featuring Hattie Mitchell, CPA, Tribal Controller of the Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians and NAFOA Board Treasurer; and Tasha Repp, CPA, Partner and National Practice Leader at Moss Adams.

3. POLICY:

REGISTER FOR TTAC GWE SUBCOMMITTEE VIRTUAL FORUM

The Treasury Tribal Advisory Committee (“TTAC”), Subcommittee on General Welfare Exclusion (“GWE Subcommittee”) is seeking feedback on a solicitation letter, accessible here, regarding the implementation of the Tribal General Welfare Exclusion Act (“TGWEA”) and the Internal Revenue Code, Section 139E.  All comments are due by September 14, 2020 at 5:00pm EDT.

On August 26, 2020 at 1:00pm EDT the GWE Subcommittee will hold a virtual forum, co-hosted by NAFOA and NCAI, for tribal leaders and stakeholders to discuss this solicitation letter. Register for the virtual forum.

4.  FOR YOUTH:
FOOD 4 FAMILIES: HELPING YOUTH FEED COMMUNITIES

The Intertribal Agriculture Council (IAC) in partnership with Farm-Aid, Indian Land Tenure Foundation, and First Nations Development Institute is proud to announce the “Food 4 Families”  initiative.

Any 4-H, FFA, or youth showing on their own, among our IAC membership who are unable to participate in their normal livestock show and the market sale can apply for a “Food 4 Families” coupon. Designed with disproportionately disadvantaged food systems in mind, this coupon will cover processing fees for animals intended for market auction, and help them to market their animal through online sales, or contribute in other ways to their local food economy.
