Tribe fires business manager

MAY 11, 2001

The Seminole Tribe on Thursday fired its business operations manager Tim Cox after refusing his resignation.

The move comes as the tribe's business ventures are rumored to be tied to some sort of FBI investigation. Little is known about the probe, although sources say it involves the financial dealings of people who work for the tribe.

While the four member council voted to fire Cox and his partner, Chief Jim Billie was against the idea. The council in recent weeks has had some public conflicts with Billie, including the takeover of the tribal newspaper and the firing of some staff seen as Billie sympathizers.
