Samson Cree Nation heads to the polls on Friday to choose a chief

Members of the Samson Cree Nation of Alberta head to the polls on Friday to elect a chief.

Incumbent Marvin Yellowbird is running for election. He faces nine challengers for the job.

One candidate is Darrel Bruno, a former RCMP staff sergeant. He said the community needs to develop more programs to prevent crime, drugs and gang violence.

Authorities said 13 gangs at one point were operating on the reserve.
