Alaska village school problems continue

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2002

Problems at an Inupiat village school in Alaska have not been corrected, critics charged.

Two teachers quit the McQueen School in Kivalina, citing fear of students and a dispute over teaching philosophy. A group of teachers also said they are subject to racial taunts from students.

The Kivalina school was shut down earlier this year over similar complaints. School officials promised to make reforms.
