Distribution of Navajo tax fund questioned

The Navajo Nation is promising to share sales tax revenue with local chapter governments but the distribution formula still has some confused.

If a chapter government is certified as self-governing, it will receive all of revenue generated from the 3-cent tax. So far, $7.7 million has been collected.

The tribe plans to return 40 percent to the 108 non-certified chapters. But of this amount, 50 percent is shared among all chapters while the other half is distributed to each chapter based on population.
