Editorial: Navajo farmers should cut back on water

FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2003

A proposal to pay Navajo farmers if they cut back on their water usage " is a positive step toward addressing potential water shortages this year," The Farmington Daily Times says in an editorial today.

The paper says local governments are doing their part to limit water usage. "That leaves only the Navajo Nation and those living in unincorporated areas," the paper says.

The proposal would be offered to Navajo farmers who agree to stop planting crops for the year and shut down their irrigation systems.
