Treatment center up for Harvard award

FRIDAY, MARCH 1, 2002

A drug and alcohol treatment center owned and operated by several Pacific Northwest tribes has been chosen as a finalist for a prestigious government award.

Located in Spokane, Washington, the Healing Lodge of the Seven Nations is one of 16 finalists for the American Indian Tribal Governance Awards. A project of Harvard University, the awards honor excellence in tribal government.

The center is run by the Spokane, Colville and Kalispel tribes of Washington; the Nez Perce, Coeur d'Alene and Kootenai of Idaho; and the Umatilla of Oregon.
