House delays faith-based bill
THURSDAY, JULY 19, 2001
Worried that religious groups could use federal funds to discriminate, the House on Thursday delayed a vote on a bill that implements President Bush's controversial faith-based initiative.
Opponents, including Democrats and GOP moderates, argued the bill needed more protections against discrimination. But Republican sponsors say they will leave the bill intact and have scheduled a vote for today.
