Snag resolved in Mohawk land and gaming settlement

MONDAY, MAY 12, 2003

The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and the state of New York plan to sign a $100 million land and casino settlement this week, The New York Times reported.

Word of the deal surfaced last week but a last-minute snag delayed the announcement. The tribe objected to a provision that would have required wholesalers on the reservation to be licensed by the state. Under a compromise, the tribe's cigarette business won't have to be licensed but can only sell on the reservation.
