Conn. governor says no more casinos

TUESDAY, JULY 2, 2002

Connecticut Gov. John G. Rowland (R) on Monday said he opposes any new casinos in the state but stopped short of saying he would oppose the federal recognition of a tribe with gaming plans.

Rowland, who is running for re-election, said appeals of the Eastern Pequot Tribe's recognition should be decided by Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat. Blumenthal and three towns opposed to the tribe are meeting today to discuss the issue.
