Seminole Nation starts investigation

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2002

The Seminole Nation of Oklahoma has started an investigation of the activities of its disputed former chief.

The tribe hired a company to look into allegations of wrongdoing that occurred during the administration of former principal chief Jerry Haney. An independent financial audit found potential mismanagement of federal and tribal funds, according to the tribe's current leaders.

Haney in response said he wasn't worried about the probe. He believes a federal judge will restore his control over the tribe.
