Petition seeks to put gaming compact before voters

An anti-gambling group, backed by an Oklahoma Republican, is seeking to put a proposed tribal-state gaming compact on the November ballot.

Oklahomans for Good Government and Rep. Forest Claunch filed a petition to overturn the Legislature's approval of Senate Bill 553, the tribal-state compact act. They say the expansion of gaming authorized by the bill will hurt families.

The bill legalizes certain electronic gaming machines for tribes and three race tracks, two of which are now owned by tribes. In exchange, the tribes and tracks would share a portion of their revenues with the state.

According to The Daily Oklahoman, the petition needs 51,781 valid signatures of registered Oklahoma voters to get on the ballot.
