George Skibine, the Bureau of Indian Affairs official in charge of gaming, will speak on land-into-trust and gaming issues in La Center, Washington, today.
Skibine was invited to speak to speak to the city council, which is opposing a land-into-trust request by the Cowlitz Tribe. The BIA is being asked to take 152 acres into trust for an initial reservation.
The tribe, which gained federal recognition in 2000, does not currently have a land base and is likely to open a casino on the initial reservation.
