NIGC won't let Coyote Valley Pomos reopen casino

The National Indian Gaming Commission on Thursday refused to allow the Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians' casino to reopen.

NIGC Chairman said the California tribe was given many chances to comply with the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The tribe has been operating the casino without a valid tribal-state compact. The Bureau of Indian Affairs yesterday refused to ratify one signed in 1999 but which was changed by the tribe.

The NIGC issued a Notice of Violation to the tribe last week and then sent a Temporary Closure Order to shut down the casino on Monday. The tribe closed the facility on Tuesday but plans to reopen with Class II games.
