California compacts being sent to BIA for review

The California Senate and Assembly voted on Thursday to approve new tribal-state gaming compacts, sending them to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for review.

The BIA has 45 days to review the compacts before they become law. The BIA could approve, deny or do nothing.

Five tribes signed the new agreements, which call for them to finance a $1 billion bond package for the state and share slot machine revenues with the state. In exchange, the tribes can offer unlimited slot machines.
