Cherokee Nation to waive immunity for race track

The Cherokee Nation will waive its sovereign immunity in order to obtain a license to run horse races at a track it recently purchased.

The tribe went before the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission to gain approval to hold 12 days of live racing in November and December 2005. A tribal attorney said sovereignty issues will have to be put into writing.

The tribe bought the failing Will Rogers Downs in March.
