California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) pulled a controversial gaming compact that would have allowed a major urban casino in the Bay Area.
Schwarzenegger and the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians agreed to delay the agreement after running into opposition from lawmakers. Republicans and Democrats questioned the size of the project and the potential impacts.
The tribe wants to build a large casino in San Pablo with 2,500 slot machines. The land was taken into trust under a Congressional rider.
The removal of the Lytton deal paved the way for the Assembly to approve four other compacts with
the Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians, the Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians, the Fort Mojave Tribe and the Ewiiaapaayp Band of Kumeyaay Indians. They go onto the Senate for a vote.
