Puyallup Tribe to operate new casino on fee land

The Puyallup Tribe of Washington will operate its new casino on 20 acres of fee land near a major highway, The Tacoma Tribune reports.

The tribe will pay property taxes because the land will remain in fee status, a casino manager said. The tribe wants to negotiate an amendment to its existing compact to authorize the casino.

The tribe is moving its riverboat operations to the new site, currently home to a hotel. The mayor of Fife says the upscale development is a welcome addition.
