California tribes with new compacts expanding

Four of the five tribes that signed new gaming compacts with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) have ordered new slot machines, the Associated Press reports.

Tribes are currently limited to 2,000 slot machines. But the new compacts allow those who signed to break that limit in exchange for sharing a portion of the revenues with the state and for paying a fee for each additional machine.

According to the AP, the four tribes plan to install a total of 1,200 new machines at their casinos. The state would receive about $14 million annually, the AP said.
