The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut completed the purchase of an out-of-state racetrack as part of an endeavor to diversify its holdings.
The tribe's gaming authority bought the 400-acre Pocono Downs in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The tribe will now seek a state license to operate up to 3,000 slot machines at the track.
The tribe runs a successful casino in southeastern Connecticut. The tribe has branched out to Arizona and Washington, where it is financing gaming deals for other tribes.
