Bill aims to restrict Class III games for tribes

A state lawmaker who has a long-standing feud with the Miccosukee Tribe has introduced a bill aimed at preventing Florida tribes from offering Class III games despite voter approval of slot machines.

Voters in Broward County approved slot machines at racetracks. But Rep. Juan Zapata (R) sponsored the bill to authorize Class II electronic bingo machines instead.

The Miccosukee Tribe and the Seminole Tribe already offer similar games at their successful casinos. But they have asked Gov. Jeb Bush (R) to negotiate a compact, saying Class III games are now legal.
