The Big Gamble: Off-reservation casinos

A growing number of tribes are seeking off-reservation casinos, The New York Times reports.

The Times reports on the recent Western Governors' Association summit on Indian gaming, where off-reservation casinos were discussed. The paper cites the example of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma seeking gaming rights in Colorado in exchange for dropping their ancestral claim to 2.7 million acres in the state.

The paper also includes a map [GIF] that mimics one disseminated by the WGA at the summit. It shows places in the nation where tribes are seeking casinos away from existing reservations.
