The Montana House Judiciary Committee voted mostly along party lines to table a bill that defines the negotiating process for tribal-state compacts.
All nine Republicans on the panel, plus two Democrats, voted to stop the bill. The remaining seven Democrats supported it.
The bill gives the Legislature a say over compact negotiated with tribes. Opponents claimed it would lead to more gambling.
