Eastern Shawnee Tribe eyes off-reservation land

The Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma is still looking to purchase up to 26 acres for an off-reservation casino in Ohio.

The tribe signed options deals to buy two separate parcels of land in Lorain. The tribe proposed to pay $10.3 million for 17.73 acres and $2.9 million for 8.5 acres.

The deal for the 8.5 acres has been restricted to 6.5 acres but the tribe is hopeful it can get all of the land it wants. Officials in Lorain, including Mayor Craig Foltin, who testified before the House Resources Committee last week, support the casino.
