California tribe still wants off-reservation casino

The leader of one faction of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe says California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's proclamation on Indian gaming won't affect his tribe's off-reservation casino proposal.

Dan Shoshone said the tribe isn't "reservation shopping" but is looking for an initial reservation. The tribe's land claim settlement act allows the acquisition of new lands.

The Dan Shoshone and Joe Kennedy factions of the tribe are both pursuing off-reservation casinos in the city of Hesperia. The project could be affected by Schwarzenegger (R), whose proclamation said he would oppose "urbanized" casinos.
