Rhode Island court to rule on Indian gaming bid

The Rhode Island Supreme Court will hold a hearing on August 15 to decide on the legality of the Narragansett Tribe's casino bid.

The tribe and its partner, Harrah's Entertainment, wants to open casino in partnership with the state. The court is being asked to determine whether the state constitution allows the proposal.

The tribe, the state House, a non-Indian race track and Gov. Donald Carcieri (R), who opposes the casino, have filed briefs with the court.
