Downtown Oklahoma City casino draws concerns

The Shawnee Tribe's proposed downtown Oklahoma City casino is drawing some concerns but not outright opposition.

Members of the Bricktown Urban Design Committee say they are open to the idea. But they are worried that the potential casino could change the nature of "Bricktown," the city's entertainment district.

The tribe won recognition through an act of Congress in 2000. The law appears to give the tribe blanket authority to acquire land anywhere in Oklahoma.

The only restriction applies to land within another tribe's jurisdiction. In that case, the other tribe must approve.
