Gaming lobbyists pay for state senator's dinner

Lobbyists for the Seminole Tribe and other gaming interests paid for the 11th annual tribute dinner to Florida Sen. Jim King (R), The Miami Herald reports.

The dinner was attended by nearly a dozen lawmakers, including three state senators who are drafting legislation for the use of slot machines in Broward County, the paper said. The Seminole Tribe is affected by the proposal and is negotiating a Class III gaming compact with Gov. Jeb Bush (R).

Lobbyists said there was nothing unusual about sponsoring the dinner. They said it was a social event and that the slot machine legislation never came up.
