BIA holds public hearing on Nottawaseppi casino

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is holding a public hearing on a draft environmental impact study of the casino proposed by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi in Michigan.

The tribe plans to build a casino on 79 acres in Emmett Township. The land is being taken into trust under an exception to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act because the tribe was recently recognized [NIGC Memo].

A local group called the Citizens Exposing Truth About Casinos opposes the proposal.
