Colorado governor blasted for casino opposition

Commissioners in Pueblo County, Colorado, criticized Gov. Bill Owens (R) for his opposition to a proposed tribal casino.

The Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma have proposed building a casino in Pueblo. Commissioners plan to hold a public hearing on the issue next Tuesday.

Owens has already come out against the proposal. He criticized the county for letting go of Wal-Mart and said gambling has "a seedier underside to it." Commissioners were upset about both comments.

"Did he think that about those other casinos?" commissioner Matt Peulen said in response, The Pueblo Chieftain reported. "But as soon as Pueblo is mentioned, there's a seedy underground."

Owens has previously called for the public to vote on the Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes proposal.
