Draft report on Cowlitz Tribe casino released

The Cowlitz Tribe of Washington released a draft environmental impact statement on its proposed casino.

The draft calls for a two-story casino, an eight-story, 250-room hotel and an underground parking garage. A convention and meeting space is also in the works.

The tribe paid for the EIS as it seeks approval to have 152 acres placed in trust. The tribe qualifies for an initial reservation because it gained recognition through the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The project is being financed by the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, the owners of a highly successful casino.
