St. Regis Mohawk Tribe switches Catskills site

Leaders of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York have told the Bureau of Indian Affairs they are switching casino sites in the Catskills.

The tribe said it will only move forward with a land-into-trust application at the Monticello Raceway. The tribe is withdrawing the application for the Kutsher's Sports Academy.

The BIA agreed to Monticello application in the spring of 2000. But soon after, the tribe changed gaming partners and filed the application for the Kutsher site.

The Kutsher application has languished at the BIA ever since and tribal leaders hope they can revive the Monticello proposal for quick approval.
