Salt River Tribe to vote on casino expansion

Members of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community will vote December 19 on a ballot initiative that would expand the tribe's casino near Scottsdale.

The tribe is proposing to replace the two metal tents that currently house Casino Arizona with a new structure. The design calls for a much larger building, as high as 15 stories, but the casino CEO said that doesn't mean the tribe is expanding its gaming offerings.

The casino tents opened in 1999.
