UKB land transfer in Alabama being delayed

The transfer of 69 acres in Alabama to the United Keetoowah Band of Oklahoma is being held up, The Fort Payne Times-Journal reports.

Daryl Hammonds, a businessman in Fort Payne, said he was trying to resolve "contractual obligations" associated with the transfer but wouldn't say what they were. He indicated it could have something to do with his idea of hosting a casino at the site.

UKB leaders have said they aren't planning a casino but that they aren't ruling it out either.
