Editorial: UKB casino 'plan' a wake-up call


"Alabama's constitution prohibits games of chance. But you wouldn't know it by what has happened in the state in recent years. Because legislators, courts and, in some cases, voters have made exceptions, they have opened the floodgates of gambling.

The latest example is an Oklahoma Indian tribe's plan to open a casino in northeast Alabama.

A man who owns 69 acres near an Indian burial site in Fort Payne says he plans to transfer the property to the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, which has a gambling operation in Oklahoma and is at least thinking of opening a casino here."
