Results of Narragansett Tribe's gaming poll at issue

Rhode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri (R) and some state citizens are wondering why the Narragansett Tribe and its casino backers won't release the full results of a recent poll.

The poll showed that 64 percent of voters want the tribe's casino proposal on the November ballot. Fifty-five percent said they would vote to the amend the state constitution to allow the casino.

But the poll asked other questions, including whether voters support Carcieri and how they feel about the involvement of Harrah's Entertainment, the tribe's gaming partner. A spokesperson for Carcieri made critical comments about the "selective" release of the poll results, prompting people who responded to the poll to call The Providence Journal and tell them about the questions they were asked.
