Rhode Island's two slot machine parlors are contributing $1 million to a campaign to defeat the Narragansett Tribe's proposed casino.
Lincoln Park and Newport Grand were racetracks that were given approval to install slot machines. Gov. Donald Carcieri (R) did not oppose their expansion of gaming but he opposes the tribe's casino.
The tribe and its partner, Harrah's Entertainment, are seeking to amend the state constitution to authorize the casino. The issue is on the November ballot.
A poll of likely voters released yesterday found 49 percent in support of the casino, 43 percent opposed and 8 percent undecided.
