Official: County gets best deal on Miwok casino

"Most of you are aware the county has settled the casino lawsuit with the Miwok Tribe.

While I am still against having a casino in our rural county, I had to recognize the county was losing the legal battle.

We were also looking at having a casino with no mitigation funds for the highway or community impacts. The outcome of the negotiations is the best ever won by any county in the state.

The almost $200 million (over 20 years) will make improvements to Highway 50 and provide funding for law enforcement and community impacts.

We were also able to get some concessions not usually won. The tribe will adhere to county building codes to help address environmental issues and will give hiring preference to residents of El Dorado County.

Now that this difficult decision has been made, I pledge that I will keep the tribe accountable to the provisions of the deal."
