Another city in Ohio receptive to Shawnee casino

Officials in Lima, Ohio, say the city should jump at the chance to host a tribal casino.

The city council heard from the Eastern Shawnee Tribe on Monday night. The tribe, based in Oklahoma, is proposing a $300 million to $400 million casino resort with restaurants, a hotel, retail stores and other amenities.

"This is a real opportunity that somebody in Ohio is going to benefit from, and I believe that Lima, given that opportunity, we ought to in fact act upon it," Mayor David Berger told The Lima News.

The city of Massillon also appears receptive to the tribe. Mayor Frank Cicchinelli said he has been impressed with plans to develop a 400-acre site in the city with a casino and aerospace plant.

The tribe is eyeing several sites in Ohio for a casino. The tribe hopes it can settle its land claim lawsuit for gaming rights in the state.
