The Burns Paiute Tribe of Oregon has submitted an off-reservation gaming application but won't release details of the project just yet.
The tribe wants to open a casino in Ontario, about 140 miles from the tribal headquarters. Some local officials said they have known about the idea for quite some time.
The tribe would have to close down its existing casino in order to open a new one. The tribe also needs federal approval to acquire the off-reservation land in trust.
The application was submitted before an April 15 cut-off date imposed in legislation being considered in the Senate.
