Rhode Island vote limits casino to Narragansett Tribe

The Rhode Island House Finance Committee voted 14-5 on Monday to approve a constitutional amendment that would allow the Narragansett Tribe to open a casino.

The committee ignored a request by Donald Trump to open up the gaming process. He wanted to open his own casino in the Providence area.

The full House still has to vote on the amendment before going to the state Senate. If approved, it could go before voters in November.

The tribe is barred from going through the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. A rider was added after the tribe won a court case that would have allowed gaming.
