Mashantucket Tribe sues town over slot machine taxes

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and a slot machine distribution company filed suit against the town of Ledyard, Connecticut, over taxes on slot machines.

Citing the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, the tribe says the town cannot impose taxes on its gaming operation. The town is charging property taxes on leased slot machines.

According to the tribe, the town has imposed nearly $11,000 in taxes on leased slot machines last year alone. This is the first time the tribe has challenged the tax.
