The new compact between the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and the state of California is on the fast track to approval.

Lawmakers plan to hold two hearings today and seek passage of a compact bill as early as today. Action is needed before the Legislature recesses on August 31.

The deal allows the tribe to operate up to 5,000 slot machines in exchange for a share of the revenues.
