Graton Rancheria casino way behind schedule

The Graton Rancheria, also known as the Coast Miwok Tribe, is seeing delays in its bid to open a casino in northern California.

The tribe has submitted a land-into-trust application. An environmental review is being prepared.

The draft study was due to be released this summer but won't be ready until December at the earliest. The National Indian Gaming Commission has asked the tribe to consider more alternatives, a project manager said.

The tribe was restored to federal recognition by an act of Congress in 2000. The law mandates acquisition of land for the tribe in a certain area.
