Passamaquoddy Tribe tries for slot machines again

The Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine is making another attempt at legalizing slot machines.

The tribe submitted a petition to add slot machines to a racetrack in Washington County. More than 56,000 signatures were collected, enough to place the issue on the ballot next year if they are valid.

The tribe tried to make the 2006 ballot but didn't collect enough signatures. In 2003, state voters rejected a tribal casino but authorized slot machines at a non-Indian racetrack.
