Mohegan Tribe in middle of off-reservation casino fight

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is in the middle of a battle for an off-reservation casino in Wisconsin.

The Mohegans are backing the Menominee Nation's bid to open an off-reservation casino at a former dog track in Kenosha. The proposal has sparked outrage by the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe, whose leaders fear their casino will be hurt.

The Mohegans say they are merely trying to help less fortunate tribes. The Mohegans would get 13.4 percent of the net revenues from the casino for seven years.

But the Potawatomis say the already-wealthy Mohegans are just being greedy. They are lobbying state and federal officials to oppose the deal.
