Nottawaseppi Chair: Tribe on track after 171 years

"What a difference 171 years makes! That is how long the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi has waited for the federal government to create a reservation.

On Dec. 12 of this year, the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi had land put into trust by the U.S. government. This is an historic milestone for our tribe. For the first time we can really begin the economic development that we have been planning and hoping to begin.

Of course the economic development that gets all the attention is gaming, and, yes, this is a huge investment that will allow us to pay for health care and housing for our members, but more importantly it will allow us to reinvest into continuing economic development projects outside of gaming. In other words, 2,500 jobs is just the start!"
