Off-reservation casinos in New Mexico debated

$stalker The owner of a racetrack in southern New Mexico says he won't share his money with New Mexico State University if off-reservation casinos are built nearby.

Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino owner Stan Fulton told NMSU that he will give the school a 50 percent stake after he dies. But if any casinos are built within 50 miles of his track, the school gets nothing.

Jemez Pueblo of New Mexico and the Tigua Tribe of Texas have started the process for casinos in the area. Both sites are within a 50-mile radius of Sunland Park. At least two other tribes are interested in casinos nearby.

Some NMSU regents have come out against off-reservation casinos but some say the board shouldn't take a position.
