Arizona tribes have shared $250M with state

Arizona's 15 gaming tribes have shared $251.4 million in revenues with the state over the past four years.

The tribes have been sharing revenues since 2003, after state voters approved Proposition 202. The initiative expanded Class III gaming for the tribes in exchange for a cut of the proceeds.

Gaming revenues have grown consistently since the first payments were made. In the last quarter of 2006, the tribes gave $15.1 million to the state, an increase of 13.7 percent from the same period in 2005.

Of the amount, about half went to education. The rest went to the state gaming department, problem gambling efforts, emergency services, tourism and the state wildlife conservation fund.
