New Mexico tribes have agreed to shorten the length of their proposed gaming compact by eight years.
Gov. Bill Richardson (D) said the new deals will expire in 2037, instead of 2045 as originally proposed. But he said one tribe -- Acoma Pueblo -- has dropped out of negotiations, leaving 10 tribes at the table.
In exchange for a longer agreement, the tribes are willing to share more slot machine revenues. The sharing rate, currently capped at 8 percent, would be raised to 10.75 percent, depending on the size of the facility.
